Physiotherapy is the science of assessing and treating musculoskeletal dysfunctions resulting in pain or loss of movement.

Physiotherapy addresses illnesses or injuries that limit a person’s abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physiotherapists use an individual’s history and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan and, when necessary, incorporate the results of laboratory and imaging studies like X-rays, CT-scan, or MRI findings. Electrodiagnostic testing (e.g., electromyograms and nerve conduction velocity testing) may also be used. Physiotherapist’s management commonly includes prescription or assistance with specific exercises, manual therapy and manipulation, and physical agents, including heat, cold, assistive devices, orthoses and other interventions.

The primary focus of the treatment at our centre offering the best physiotherapy is to maximize the functional potential of an individual with dysfunction, disease or injury and facilitate fitness training and lifestyle modifications to improve their health conditions.

The range of techniques used in physiotherapy has all been proven effective scientifically. At Valetta Street Medical Centre we will teach you how to use your body correctly to prevent future injuries and maximise sporting performance.

Initial consultation?

The initial physiotherapy consult consists of a thorough examination of your body to find all the possible contributing factors to your presenting problem. Treatment and testing are then done to find which contributing factor(s) is most effective at resolving your functional deficit. Once the best treatment is found, you will be taught how to look after this area in your body. This may involve self-massage, stretching, strengthening, clinical Pilates exercises, postural awareness, etc.
